Featured Artist: Gwendydd Fox
What is a weird or fun fact about yourself?
I love to make creepy scary gross creatures and drawings but I can’t stand horrors? I am a self taught artist I learn by doing and learnt the love of art from my dad, he was my muse. And my right pointer finger is twice the size of my left!
What is something you wish you would have known before you started creating?
That I could have been doing this sooner!!! I wish I had started really pushing my sculpting much sooner than five years ago as it is incredible what I have learnt and how I have improved in such a short time just by doing!
What is your favorite part of the doll making process? Least favorite?
I love finding the character in the clay, not Having a concept to start with and just playing till I find a character. And the eyes! I love doing the eyes, they come alive in the eyes.
What is the craziest real animal you would like to make a doll of?
Real animal….do dragons count! Hmmm I love tigers but I wouldn’t call them crazy. A hairless Sphinx!!! I would love to give all those wrinkles a go and bring cute and creepy together!
If you were a new addition to the crayon box. What color would you be and why?
Iridescent Glitter! I would be bright and sparkly and slightly annoy the other colours as I get into everything!
What do you do to keep yourself motivated and interested in your work?
I put the heads of my creatures where I can see them so I’m taunted by the potential of what could be…and I’m way to curious not to pursue that! I have lots of projects that I hit roadblocks but I keep them present and around even when I’m working on a new project as the new project might teach me how to move forward with the old one. I don’t see failure as a stopping point anymore but rather as a chance of learning something new. I like the chance to explore, fail, discover and each new build is exciting. Motivation to create isn’t the problem it’s which idea to do next.
